2014 GAPCO
In July 2014, I rode my bike along the Great Allegheny Passage and C&O Towpath (GAPCO) bike paths, with two other people.

The cast of characters for that trip are Lauren, Ellen, and myself (Annie) and, in short, we rode a total of 365 miles in 7 days, on a self-supported cycling tour from Pittsburgh to DC. The trails themselves total 335 miles, but we accumulated some extra miles traveling to campsites, hotels, and sights along the way.
We all rode hybrid bikes with two rear panniers each, holding tents, sleeping bags, clothes, first aid supplies, bike tools, spare tubes, and food. Ellen also packed some other necessities like sparklers, eye masks, and apples. Along the way, we slept at both campsites and hotels, on alternating nights.
Our trip itinerary and re-caps are as follows (distances and elevation changes are approximations based on our odometers and guidebooks):

- Day 0: Illinois to Pittsburgh, PA via rental van
- Day 1: Pittsburgh, PA to Roundbottom Campground (Mile Post 99 of GAP): 52 miles, elevation change +195 feet
- Day 2: Roundbottom Campground to Confluence, PA (River’s Edge Loft): 42 miles, +480 feet
- Day 3: Confluence, PA to Rockwood, PA (Husky Haven Campground): 23 miles (+8 mile detour), +500 feet
- Day 4: Rockwood, PA to Cumberland, MD (Hotel): 44 miles, -1,200 feet (weeee!)
- Day 5: Cumberland, MD to Hancock, MD (Happy Hills Campground): 60 miles, -200 feet
- Day 6: Hancock, MD to Harper’s Ferry, WV (Hotel): 74 miles, -200 feet
- Day 7: Harper’s Ferry, WV to Washington, DC (Hotel): 62 miles, -264 feet
